Friends’ WPRD was created to help individuals, businesses, governments, and corporate entities understand the value of PR and its role in the rapidly evolving communications landscape and yours truly feels privileged to be associated with WPRD as a PARTNER.

Friends’ first time World PR Day was celebrated on 16th July 2021 to forge a global agenda of enlightening the world about the nobility and misconceptions around PR.  July 16th was chosen as a way of paying homage to late Ivy Ledbetter Lee, who was regarded as the father of modern public relations. 146 years ago, Mr. Ivy Lee was born on same day in the year 1877 and he spent most of his life changing the way people perceive public relations. PR model of great Ivy Lee emphasized honesty, truth, and accuracy. He expressed his ideas on how companies should conduct public relations by issuing his Declaration of Principles to the media. Ivy Lee emphasized the importance of thoroughly explaining the activities of an organization to the media. The Declaration of Principles became Ivy Lee's most outstanding contribution to modern public relations.

Ivy Lee's PR impact is exemplified in how he handled the fatal Pennsylvania Railroad accident that took place on 28th October 1906 resulting in death of more than 50 passengers. He opposed the company executives' idea not to release any information about the accident to the media. Instead, Lee convinced them to allow him to release a statement providing the press with all information related to the accident. Thus the first press release was born. On 30th October 1906, The New York Times published the news without changing Ivy Lee's text. Besides distributing the press release to reporters, Lee also advised the Pennsylvania Railroad to provide special trains to transport reporters to the accident site. Friends’ the first-ever press release issued by Ivy Lee became the industry standard.

Friends’ First edition of World PR Day featured over 3,500 agencies and practitioners from 25 cities across 15 countries, including India, Ukraine, Romania, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, UK, USA, Israel, and Saudi Arabia, sharing progressive ideas and leading conversation about prominent issues in PR. The PR Bible, a crowd sourced repository of PR resources from PR pros across the world, was launched during the event. The PR Bible includes valuable PR resources such as books, articles, press releases, and podcasts required to excel in public relations profession.

As per wprd.app, Public Relations stakeholders from around the world celebrated the second edition of World PR Day on 16th July 2022. More than 10,000 people from 60 countries, across six continents participated in examining Trust, Truth and Transparency. A host of activities ranging from virtual events, to summits, conferences and festivals from over 20 PR and communication associations and 150 agencies were successfully organized.

As per World PR Day manifesto, PR forms the bedrock of society and PR professionals are the custodians of the narratives.  Being storytellers PR professionals are the ones who devise the means, the mannerisms that control the media. PR professionals are the heroes, and every hero deserves to be recognized, every hero deserves to be appreciated. Not just for the immensely long hours, not just for the endless meetings with clients, not just for this labour of love, but for who he is – A PR Practitioner.

The World PR Day presents opportunities for public relations and marketing communications practitioners across the globe to unite and stake a claim for the practice. World PR Day is dedicated to truth, honesty and reputation management in a way that is beneficial to all humans across the globe. The day presents a unified global agenda towards making the world understand and utilize PR better.

Friends’ everything I do or say is PR and my definition of PR is PYAAR i.e. Love because Attributes of PYAAR or LOVE are….. AFFECTION, APPRECIATION, CARE, COMMITMENT, COMMUNICATION, DESIRE, EMOTIONS, HONESTY, IMAGINATION, KINDNESS, LOYALITY, MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING, NEED, PASSION, RESPECT, TRUST, and TRUTHFULNESS, and Public Relations is a practice in which all the above attributes ( of LOVE) plays strategic role in establishing favorable image and strong long- term relationships of an individual or organization with their internal and external publics.
