Friends after spending over three decades actively practicing various facets of PR and teaching PR for over 15 years at top notch media institutes of the country, I’m writing this blog especially for those aspiring to work in the field of PR.

Friends’ before striding
into the field of PR, it is imperative to understand why you want to choose PR
as a career and what your expectations from PR are. I’m pretty sure that after reading this blog you
would definitely get an idea about the field of PR and the kind of working -
expertise is required in PR.
Friends’ there are
different types of PR viz Corporate PR, Corporate Communication, Media
Relations, Employees Relations, Consumer Relations, Financial Relations, Investors
Relations, Community Relations, Corporate Social Responsibility, Corporate
Affairs, Crises PR, Government PR, Hospitality PR, Healthcare PR, Technology
PR, Travel & Tourism PR, Education PR, Advocacy PR, Fashion PR, Celebrity
PR, Film PR, Political PR, Sports PR, and Digital PR.
Friends’ profession of
PR requires a lot of hard work and long working hours 24x7-365 days. Great Networking skills, excellent
communication skills, managing good relations with media etc. etc. etc. are the
essentials to work in the field of PR. Basically, PR offers an amazingly diverse
and exciting career, encompassing many diverse activities. Therefore, prior to
venturing in the field of PR, please do ask yourself the following questions;
Q.1. Am I Creative and think
outside the box?
Ans.
To explore ideas that are creative, unusual and are not limited or
controlled by rules or tradition is one of the important skills in PR to stand-out
from the crowd, achieve cut-through and deliver inspiring communication.
Q.2. Do I
have an interest in what's happening or going on around me?
Ans. PR
practitioners need to be aware of current news, trends and issues. Keeping up to
date with the world around you are vital when advising clients or brainstorming
PR campaign ideas.
Q.3. Do I
have good communication skills?
Ans. PR practitioners must be confident talking to a wide range of people – for example, your role may involve presenting to clients, dealing with journalists and meeting with groups of people important to your client or the Organisation you’re working for. You also need to have excellent writing skills as you could be writing press releases, articles and newsletters.
Q.4. Can I perform
well under pressure?
Ans. PR job can be
incredibly varied so you will need to be able to organize your work in order to
meet strict deadlines. The ability to multi-tasking is essential, and a
flexible attitude important. If you are looking for a 10-6 job, then PR is
probably not for you. Your position may involve early starts, late finishes or
time at the weekend.
Q.5. Do I
require certain skills to work in the field of PR?
Ans. The following skills and qualities are
important if you are planning to work in the field of PR or Corp.Comm. You
